Ticket to the Hamsun Museum summer 2026

Knut Hamsun moved with his family to Nørholm manor outside Grimstad in 1918. To finance the purchase, he took out a loan at Grimstad Savings Bank, which at the time was located at Storgaten 44. Years later, he climbed the stairs to the second floor of that same building — this time as a defendant, charged with having harmed his country during the Second World War. These events are the theme of the summer exhibition at Storgaten 44 in Grimstad.

NEW IN 2026: Get to know Hamsun's novel Mysteries, published in 1892. He wrote it during a stay in Lillesand in the very same summer the novel was released. In it we meet the enigmatic Johan Nagel, who causes a stir in the small town he visits for a few brief summer months. The painter Peter Esdaile has drawn inspiration from the novel, and several of his paintings are on display in the exhibition.

Daily at 13:00: Literary presentation in the art exhibition (included in the ticket price)

Please note that a ticket to the guided tour at the Ibsen Museum in Grimstad grants free entry to the Hamsun Museum upon presentation of your ticket.
